About Us

Located in Delaware County in east central Indiana, Muncie Community Schools is an urban school district with approximately 5,000 students in this culturally-diverse community adjacent to Ball State University. Having the most comprehensive course offerings in the area and multiple state-award winning instrumental programs, the addition of a new Dual Language Immersion Program, as well as as high performance elementary school, affords MCS the opportunity to be one of the most unique school districts in the nation.

Muncie Community Schools' Mission Statement 

The mission of Muncie Community Schools is to provide a quality educational environment that allows every student to maximize his or her potential and, upon graduation, possess the skills necessary to be a positive, productive, contributing member of society.

The Muncie Community School Corporation is home to an exceptionally talented collection of approximately 6,000 K-12 and adult education students and the school corporation employs 1,422 full and part-time faculty and staff members. Our district has six(6) elementary schools, two(2) middle schools, one(1) high school, an alternative program, an area career center, and adult community education programs housed in over 12 locations in the greater Muncie/Delaware County Area. We also have an environmental learning center available for use by all students, faculty, and staff members.

Muncie Community Schools is an 8-Step District

The 8-Step Process has been implemented in all of our schools and is credited with the improved student achievement in state ISTEP+ scores and federal AYP results for the past several years. 

8 Step

  1. Data Disaggregation— Analyze student performance data to inform instruction.
  2. Curriculum Timeline— Establish a time-line teaching the identified essential knowledge and skills.
  3. Instructional Focus— Direct instruction to students with focus on specific skills and standards.
  4. Assessment— Assess student progress on the standards using formative (standards based)and summative (comprehensive) assessments.
  5. Tutorials/Remediation— Provide time to re-teach those students who have not yet become proficient.
  6. Enrichment— Provide enrichment opportunities for students who are proficient.
  7. Maintenance—Provide on-going maintenance to ensure students retain mastery of the standards.
  8. Monitor— Monitor all progress of students through data meetings, collaboration among staff, focused leadership, etc.
